Assam CM, finance min discuss state’s economic expansion
Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday met Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi to chart out the state’s future growth trajectory, with a sharp focus on economic expansion, infrastructure development and investment opportunities.
He underscored the importance of centre-state coordination in driving development.
In a social media post after the meeting, the CM said he discussed the state’s priorities for the coming years and thanked the finance minister for her continued backing.
Sources said the discussions revolved around Assam’s economic roadmap, infrastructure expansion and investment potential. The state has been aggressively pursuing large-scale projects in roads, railways, healthcare, education and energy, alongside industrial investments and welfare schemes aimed at strengthening the economy and improving connectivity.
Officials indicated that issues related to financial assistance, ongoing projects and future investment opportunities were also part of the deliberations.
The meeting highlighted the growing synergy between Assam and the centre in implementing development programmes. Over the past few years, Assam has made efforts to improve ease of business, with the govt keen to attract private capital.
Sarma emphasised that sustained support from the Centre remains crucial for Assam’s long-term economic transformation.
Sources said the state is positioning itself as an emerging economic hub in the northeast, with emphasis on infrastructure, tourism, semiconductor manufacturing, green energy and connectivity projects.
