Cong family nominee or BJP face from humble roots: CM asks voters

Guwahati: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, while criticising Congress over its "dynasty politics", asked if the state would succumb to the tradition of dynasty politics, which is already entrenched in several states across the country.During a social media interaction, Sarma said, "In Uttar Pradesh and other parts, dynasty politics is not a novel tradition. It has essentially distorted the entire system in Indian politics and given it a formal structure."He added that Assam politics appears to be at the cusp of another dark phase. "Can we participate in politics without the identity of our fathers? Can we establish ourselves independently and strive to create our own political identity?" he asked, criticising the Congress for allocating a ticket to former MLA and present MP Rakibul Hussain's son Tanzil Hussain instead of providing opportunities to other party workers in the Samaguri bypolls.He said Samaguri residents will now choose between Diplu Ranjan Sarmah, a common youth of modest origin, and Tanzil Hussain, a third-generation family representative. "The Samaguri assembly constituency has never been with the BJP previously, yet this byelection shall resonate with people's conscience," he added.Meanwhile, BJP organised a grand road show in Samaguri on the campaign's final day, with state president Bhabesh Kalita spearheading the rally. The constituency has experienced numerous incidents of prepoll violence, including the alleged shooting at BJP MLA Jitu Goswami's vehicle on Saturday night.AGP president Atul Bora also led a motorcycle rally for their candidate Diptimayee Choudhury in Bongaigaon.BJP insiders said the NDA is optimistic about securing four out of five seats but faces challenges in Samaguri.
