Assam: Cachar forest official held for accepting bribe

The directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (VAC) arrested Debabrata Gogoi, forest ranger of Jirighat in Lakhipur sub-division of Cachar district, while accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 from a person in Ranipur on Wednesday.

SILCHAR: The directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (VAC) arrested Debabrata Gogoi, forest ranger of Jirighat in Lakhipur sub-division of Cachar district, while accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 from a person in Ranipur on Wednesday.
The team applied some chemicals on the currencies which were received by the range officer and caught him red-handed while he was taking the money from the person.

An official said Debabrata tried to escpae but he was chased down by the team. The range officer’s hands were smeared with the solution after which it was confirmed that he took the money as the colour had turned red.
The sources said the vigilance and anti-corruption unit had got a complaint about Debabrata after which the unit began a probe.
Armed with valid evidence, the range officer was arrested on Wednesday.
