constable at around 1:30 am on Saturday.

The arrested trio have been identified as BSF personnel Poroma Gogoi, Kusum Gogoi and Gyandeep Hazarika. They were produced before a local court in Jorhat and were sent to 14 days of judicial custody.

Police said the three arrested persons, riding a motorcycle, were on their way to Namti in Sivasagar from Boloma in Jorhat at around 1:30 am, when a three-member police team intercepted them at Jhanji as inter-district movement has been barred due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Teok police station officer-in-charge Satish Sahu said, "When our team asked them to stop the motorcycle, the trio assaulted constable Pranab Baruah who sustained multiple injuries in his face, head and other parts of the body. Baruah's four teeth of the lower jaw were damaged. Later, another police force reached the spot and arrested them."

Sahu added that besides Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging of his duty), the trio have been booked under section 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 307 (Attempt to murder) and 393 (Attempt to commit robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.
