JORHAT: A bank official in
Assam's Jorhat town was arrested on Monday morning for allegedly
masturbating outside a girls' hostel
located in the Cholodhara area.
The man, identified as Samrit Kumar Das (35), has already confessed to his crime, police said. Das, an assistant manager of Vijaya Bank's
Golaghat
branch, had allegedly indulged in the act in front of the Binapani Girls' Hostel several times in the last one year. As many as 84 girls, all college students, stay in the hostel.
Confirming the arrest, additional SP (HQ), Jorhat, Mukut Rabha, said the bank official was produced in a local court which sent him to three-day police remand. "We have registered a case under section 354 D (stalking) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code," said Hemen Das, the investigation officer in the case.

Students Federation of India's
(SFI) Jorhat district committee, Amar Kalita, lodged a written complaint against Das after video clips showing him in the act were uploaded on Facebook.
"We arrested the accused from Pulibor on NH-37 at 4 am when he was trying to flee to Guwahati in a car. " Hemen said.
