GUWAHTI: Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi on Wednesday said a total of 1,322 polling stations have been set up in the district. Of these, five are located in riverine areas, where polling personnel will travel via the Brahmaputra to enable voters in remote locations to cast their votes within their villages.
In a notable initiative to promote women’s participation, 300 polling stations will be managed entirely by women staff. Officials said women personnel displayed strong enthusiasm during training sessions, indicating rising confidence and involvement.
The administration is focusing on both improving connectivity in difficult riverine regions and increasing women-led participation to ensure a smooth and inclusive polling process.
Meanwhile, with
Assam set to vote on April 9, the
Election Commission of India (ECI) conducted an online review and training session for district officials, including District Election Officers, Superintendents of Police and other senior officers, to assess preparedness.
According to an official statement, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had earlier stressed that the elections must be conducted in a peaceful and fair manner, free from violence, intimidation or inducements, allowing voters to exercise their franchise without fear.
Senior officials reviewed various aspects of election planning, including polling station facilities, EVM management, logistics, staff training, law and order, and voter awareness efforts.
District officials have been directed to distribute Voter Information Slips to all electors at least five days before polling and to provide voter guides to every household. Braille-enabled slips will also be issued for visually impaired voters.
Special attention has also been given to safety measures at polling stations, particularly those located in riverine areas.
Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4, the Election Commission said.
