Assam-Arunachal officials meet over border security
Dibrugarh: District administrations of Lakhimpur in Assam and Papum Pare in Arunachal Pradesh held a coordination meeting on Monday at the circle officer’s office in Banderdewa to strengthen inter-state cooperation ahead of the upcoming Assam assembly elections and ensure peaceful polling along the border.
Senior officials from both states discussed law and order management, stepped-up surveillance, prevention of illegal movement of liquor and contraband, regulation of vehicular traffic, and coordination among enforcement agencies.
Lakhimpur district commissioner Pranab Jit Kakoty underlined the need for joint action during the election period. “Close coordination between our administrations is essential to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. We are committed to working together with our counterparts in Arunachal Pradesh to maintain law and order along the border,” he said.
Deputy commissioner of Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) Toko Babu said information sharing would be central to preventing disruptions.
“Timely exchange of intelligence and joint operational strategies will be crucial in preventing any attempts to vitiate the electoral atmosphere. Our teams will work in close coordination to ensure that the border areas remain peaceful and secure,” Babu said.
The meeting was attended by senior police officials including Gunendra Deka, senior superintendent of police, Lakhimpur, Jummar Basar, SP, Itanagar Capital Region, and Nyelam Nega, SP, Naharlagun, along with other officials from both states.
Officials flagged concerns over illegal movement of liquor and other contraband across the inter-state border during the election period.
