Dibrugarh: The Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles achieved a breakthrough in counter-insurgency operations by facilitating the surrender of an active NSCN (Reformation) cadre in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on Wednesday.Acting on credible intelligence from the 3 CIB regarding the presence of an active insurgent in the Khonsa area, the Khonsa Battalion launched a coordinated operation with Arunachal Pradesh Police. The operation utilised ground sources and employed persistent counselling to convince the insurgent to lay down arms.

The surrendered insurgent has been identified as self-styled Sergeant Khunpong Wangsa (30), a resident of Lower Kolam village in Tirap district. He voluntarily handed over one .32 mm pistol, one magazine, and five live bullets to the authorities before being transferred to Khonsa PS for further legal proceedings.
