Amit Shah reaches Assam for pre-poll meet with BJP top brass
Guwahati: Union home minister Amit Shah arrived in Assam on Saturday evening, just hours after PM Narendra Modi wrapped up his two-day trip to the state and flew out to the other poll-bound state of West Bengal.
Shah’s Assam visit comes ahead of the assembly elections, with the BJP looking to secure a third consecutive term in the state.
Shah was received at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior officials.
The home minister is scheduled to spend the night at the Kainadhara State Guest House, where he will meet BJP’s top brass informally and discuss the strategies for the upcoming polls.
On Sunday morning, Shah will inaugurate the Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), the second medical college in the state capital after Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
The new institute has been created by upgrading the Kalapahar TB Hospital.
Following the inauguration, Shah will attend the youth convention of BJP’s youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). The event, called ‘Yuva Shakti Samaroh’, is expected to draw over one lakh participants.
Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia wrote on X, “Preparations were reviewed for the ‘Yuva Shakti Samaroh’ to be addressed tomorrow by Hon’ble Union Home Minister @AmitShah Ji, with 1 lakh+ youths set to participate. A major step towards a Viksit and Aatmanirbhar Assam.”
An official said Shah will leave the state after the youth convention. The assembly elections for 126 constituencies are likely in Apr, the first after the 2023 delimitation exercise.
