AIUDF: Not a single Muslim vote should go to BJP
Guwahati: Slamming BJP for what he described as divisive politics targeting a particular community, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal on Saturday said not a single Muslim vote should go to the saffron party. He also accused the opposition — particularly Congress and Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal — of concentrating their political efforts on minority-majority constituencies, which he termed AIUDF strongholds, while giving BJP a free run in Hindu-majority seats.
“No Muslim voter should vote for BJP. If someone does, it is a disgrace to the community,” Ajmal said.
Ajmal alleged that both BJP and Congress were using minority voters purely for electoral gain and predicted a major shift in Assam’s political landscape ahead of the polls.
“BJP is quietly leaving minority-majority areas to the Congress, while Congress is avoiding majority areas for BJP. This arrangement is happening at the cost of minority voters,” he said.
Predicting a decisive political shift, Ajmal claimed minority communities would play a key role in forming the next govt. “In 2026, Assam’s political power will change hands. No matter how much Himanta Biswa Sarma shouts, the momentum of the ‘miya’ community will not stop,” he said.
‘Miya’ is a pejorative term commonly used to refer to Bangladesh-origin migrant Muslims in Assam.
Ajmal also accused the Congress of playing a “double game” with minority voters. Referring to the activities of Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi in Upper Assam, he said their focus on Muslim-dominated constituencies had sent a clear signal to BJP. “Whether it is Congress or Raijor Dal, their attention is fixed on the same minority voters,” he alleged.
