Aasu leads anti-drug rally in Dibrugarh, calls for strict action against drug menace
Dibrugarh: Members of the All Assam Students' Union (Aasu) organised a massive anti-drug rally in Dibrugarh town on Tuesday, demanding strong action against drug trafficking as part of a statewide awareness campaign against substance abuse. The procession commenced from Aasu's Swahid Bhavan in Chowkidinghee. It wound its way through the bustling streets of Dibrugarh, drawing attention to the urgent issue of substance abuse affecting the youth in the state. The participants carried placards with messages like ‘Say No To Drugs' and ‘Save Our Youth', raising slogans calling for a drug-free Assam. The rally aimed to sensitise the public, especially the younger generation, about the dangers of drug abuse and to urge authorities to take stringent action against drug traffickers and peddlers. Aasu Dibrugarh district president Rupjyoti Borthakur, who led the rally, spoke about the devastating impact of drugs on society."Drug abuse is destroying the future of our youth. It is not just a social issue but a grave threat to the entire community. We urge state govt to take strict action against drug traffickers and peddlers operating in the state," Borthakur said.He highlighted the need for collective efforts to tackle the problem."This is not a fight that Aasu can wage alone. We need the support of the administration, parents, teachers and every responsible citizen to eradicate this evil from our society. Schools and colleges must take proactive steps to educate students about the perils of drugs," Borthakur added. The rally concluded with Aasu leaders submitting a memorandum to DC Bikram Kairi, demanding increased police patrolling near educational institutions, regular raids on suspected drug hotspots and the establishment of a special task force dedicated to addressing the drug problem in the district.
