AAP, Aasu demand CBI investigation

Guwahati: The state unit of the Aam Aadmi Party staged a demonstration in front of the Secretariat demanding a CBI probe into the death of woman sub-inspector Junmoni Rabha, while various students’ organisations, including All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu) have also come up with the same demand for an impartial and fair investigation into the case.
AAP’s state vice-president Jitul Deka said the chronology of events, including the claims of Pranab Das, a purported witness to the incident on Tuesday, have raised several eyebrows. “The investigation into the case has been handed over to CID. But we are not satisfied. It must be given to the CBI for an impartial investigation and for the truth to come out,” he added.
He said the angles of involvement of counterfeit currency trade racket, fake gold trade racket and drugs racket in Nagaon have also come to light in connection with the death of Junmoni. The angle of suspected involvement of police in the case has also come to the fore, he said.
“Every angle must be examined thoroughly to ascertain the truth and punish the guilty, if there is any reason behind the death of Junmoni. This is what we demand,” he added.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said he would transfer the case to CBI if the family members want so. “CID is investigating and it has made progress. It must come to light if somebody was involved in her death,” he added.
