Aizawl: Mizoram lokayukta has registered eight graft-related cases, all recommended for preliminary inquiry, with reports on seven cases received to date, according to the annual report of Mizoram lokayukta 2023-2024 submitted to the state governor Gen Vijay Kumar Singh on Tuesday, an official statement said. Since its inception in March 2019 until Feb 10, 2025, the lokayukta has registered 71 cases.
Chairperson of the Mizoram lokayukta, Lalmalsawma, presented the 5th annual report to the governor at the Raj Bhavan. The report covers the period from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, and will be tabled in the state legislative assembly during the upcoming budget session commencing on Feb 19.
Since its inception in March 2019 until Feb 10, 2025, the Mizoram lokayukta has registered 71 cases, of which 46 cases have been ordered for preliminary inquiry. It has conducted 38 case hearings, resulting in four convictions, one acquittal, and three cases being referred for departmental proceedings.
In a meeting while submitting the annual report, Singh was apprised by Lalmalsawma, along with members Lalsanglura and Joel Joseph Denga, on various activities and initiatives of the Lokayukta in Mizoram. They provided updates on pending cases, ongoing investigations, and key developments within their jurisdiction, an official statement added.
