60-yr-old dies in bike-auto crash, rider cop detained
Silchar: A 60-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and an autorickshaw in Hailakandi district on Thursday, police said. The bike rider, who is a police constable, has been detained.The deceased, identified as Haripada Sinha, was a resident of Machughat in Cachar district. The accident occurred at Basic Chourangi when Sinha was travelling by autorickshaw from Hailakandi towards Ramkrishnanagar.

Both the autorickshaw driver and the biker fled the scene after the collision.Hailakandi police rushed to the spot on receiving information and later detained the biker, identified as Mrinal Ahmed, a constable posted at the office of the senior superintendent of police, Hailakandi. The motorcycle, which was hidden after the accident, was seized.However, till the filing of this report, the autorickshaw involved in the crash had not been traced.Police said the investigation is ongoing.
