Guwahati: A team from Garchuk police station has arrested four suspected members of a gang involved in carrying out multiple robberies across the city. They were produced before a local court on Monday.
According to officers, the accused were arrested on Sunday in Boragaon’s Belwali area. “The accused were arrested after coordinated efforts by officers,” a Garchuk PS officer said.
The accused have been identified as Bandhura Basumatary from Bongaingaon district, Janak Basumatary from Kokrajhar district, Mano Basumatary from Dhemaji district, and Dilip Swargiary from Patgaon in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district.
The officer said during the operation, several incriminating items, including a pistol, live ammunition, a dagger and tools generally used during robberies, were recovered. “We also recovered detailed plans for robberies they were about to carry out,” the officer added.
Officers believe that their timely interception prevented potential criminal activity in the city. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS Act and the Arms Act.
