IMPHAL: The annual High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLC) conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) began on Friday with the Social Science paper. Over 30,000 students appeared for the exam on the first day in 90 exam centres, spread over the state.
The board has fanned out 21 flying squads to keep a check on students so that they do not resort to unfair means to pass the examination.
The district authorities clamped prohibitory orders on the exam centres, not allowing more than five persons, other than officials, candidates and law enforcement agencies, to be present in the examination hall. Board secretary Rajmohon Singh has also appealed to all concerned not to impose bandhs and blockades during the exam.
However, the board barred 7,000 students from 28 schools from appearing for the examination in the hill centres, a few days before the commencement of the exam, as they did not fulfill the guidelines for the exam properly.
On Thursday, the higher secondary examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur began with 19, 672 students appearing for it.
Zeliangrong Youth Front (
Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) sent its wishes to all the students appearing for both HSLC and higher secondary examinations. “Let the spirit of competition rise but do not resort to cheating to pass the exam,” a statement of the front signed by its president, Titus Kamei said.
The front appealed to teachers and invigilators to strictly monitor the examination so that the students cannot resort to unfair means. However, it was also optimistic that the students are courageous and mentally capable to display their hidden capability, efforts, hard work and determination in these examinations.
