The arrested accused have been identified as Abhiram Tasang (46) and Amar Sonar (47) of Chariduar in Sonitpur district.

Dipu Bora, the OC of Chariduar police station, said, “The woman, who hails from Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur, was staying at her relative’s place in Chariduar for a couple of days. The accused had taken her to Naharlagun on October 6 on the false promise of finding her a good job there.”

However, Bora said, the victim stated in the FIR that she was asked to work as a domestic help for a family in Naharlagun, where she was raped and tortured on October 7 . “She somehow fled from their residence and lodged an FIR with us on Thursday. She is in trauma. She could not provide the name of the person, who had allegedly raped her, and the name of the house owner to us,” Bora said.
