Guwahati: STF of Assam Police arrested two persons on Friday for trafficking heroin and methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 71 crore.
The operation, led by STF chief and commissioner of police Parthasarathi Mahanta alongside additional SP Kalyan Pathak, involved two separate intelligence-driven raids.
In the first operation, a vehicle was intercepted at Amingaon where police discovered 40 soap boxes filled with heroin weighing 520 grams. "It is valued at approximately Rs 4 crore," said additional SP Pathak. The arrested driver has been identified as Nazrul Hussain (22), a native of Loknathpur in Cachar district.
On the same day, police stopped a truck at same location and seized a consignment of 2.7 lakh Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth Rs 67 crore. The truck driver, Nur Islam (34), a native of Golibandha village Bajali district, was arrested.
