1.1% Guwahati zone candidates clear IIT

The results of the IIT-JEE, 2011, for admissions to various courses in the IITs across the country, declared on Wednesday, saw 1.1 per cent candidates clearing the exam from IIT Guwahati zone.

GUWAHATI: The results of the IIT-JEE, 2011, for admissions to various courses in the IITs across the country, declared on Wednesday, saw 1.1 per cent candidates clearing the exam from IIT Guwahati zone. Amol, with all India ranking (AIR) 41, was declared as the topper from the region where 56,458 candidates from Guwahati zone appeared in one of the toughest entrance tests in the country.
Among the 597 successful candidates from Guwahati zone, 550 were boys while 47 were girls.

Guwahati zone comprises all eight northeast states, Bihar and Siliguri.
From Assam, 76 candidates were successful out of 6,280 candidates, who appeared in the exam. Only two candidates could crack the entrance out of the 1,419 candidates from rest of the northeast. Twenty students have cleared the exam from Bihar and Siliguri, respectively.
Altogether 4,68,240 candidates appeared for the test across the country, which was conducted by the seven IITs on April 10 this year. Out of them, 13,602 candidates have been declared qualified to seek admission for the 9,618 seats in the 15 IITs across the country.

Immadi Prudhvi Tej, who appeared in JEE from IIT Madras zone, topped this year's all India list of successful candidates.
The candidates who have successfully cleared the exam expressed their happiness on clearing the exam, which would help get admission in one of the most prestigious technical institutes of the country.
Dhanjit Das of Assam, who secured 422nd position in all India ranking (AIR) from the Guwahati zone, is now aiming to get admission either in IIT Bombay or Delhi to pursue a degree in Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering.

"I'm extremely happy with the outcome, though I achieved it in my second chance. I really worked hard for it," said an elated Dhanjit, who did his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Borjhar, located in the outskirts of the city.
Besides Dhanjit, the other candidates who cracked the exam from the Guwahati zone expressed their joy at the achievement.
Nabajyoti Mali, a student of Cotton College who earned 1907th position in the all India ranking (AIR) said that it's a special feeling after getting through the entrance test. "It's a proud moment for me as just a few students get selected in the entrance from across the country. Now, I wish to get admission in IIT- Bombay to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering," said Mali.
Ankit Jain with 2345 AIR, Himangshu Mangulia with 2611 AIR, Pranab Sodhan with 2859 AIR, Monimoy Bujarbaruah with 4849 AIR and Rajat Sinha with 5181AIR were some of the candidates who cleared the exam from the Guwahati zone.
