GURUGRAM: The Cyber Cell police on Friday booked an astrologer for allegedly cheating a 58-year-old woman of Rs 60,000 on the pretext of performing a prayer. The woman, a resident of Golf Course Extension, filed a complaint in this regard on December 23, 2022.

According to the woman, she had found an astrologer on the internet last month to get a nazar dosh pooja done. Since she wasn't keeping well for quite some time, she shared her horoscope with the astrologer who pointed out an obstacle in her horoscope which was affecting her health.

He claimed to remove the obstacle by performing a pooja for her. For this, he took Rs 13,000 from the woman and later asked for more money on one pretext or the other.

“The astrologer took a total of Rs 60,000 in four instalments and convinced me that my poor health was due to a problem in my horoscope,” the woman told the police.

However, when the woman realised that she had been cheated, the astrologer stopped responding to her calls. The police investigated the matter and registered an FIR against the accused on Friday under IPC sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating).

“We have sought all the details from the woman and have formed teams to track and identify the accused,” said a police officer from the Cyber Cell.
