With cycle tracks & footpaths, Gurgaon’s civic body plans a model road to South City 2

Gurgaon: The municipal corporation is planning to reconstruct a stretch connecting South City 2 A Block with the main road of Nirvana Country and develop it as a model road. The project is estimated to cost Rs 5.1 crore.Officials said the tendering process has already begun and a private agency will be finalised to execute the project within a span of 10 months.
"The project is expected to improve road infrastructure and traffic movement in the area. We will give 10 months to the agency to complete the reconstruction work," said an MCG official privy to the matter.The model road will have a dedicated cycle track and footpath. Street lighting infrastructure, upgraded stormwater drainage systems and sewer lines will be established.The civic body has recently initiated the process to construct two model roads in the city, one each in Sectors 32 and 39. The Sector 32 model road will span 750 metres from Rajiv Chowk on NH8 to Medanta and will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 6.7 crore. The second project, in Sector 39, will run from Medanta to Bakhtawar Chowk over a length of 1.05 km and cost nearly Rs 7.2 crore. Besides cycle tracks and footpaths, green spaces are also planned as part of the redesign.The construction of these roads is part of MCG's larger plan to develop 100 km of city roads as model roads.In its meeting on Nov 20, the MCG's finance and contracts committee approved the construction of several other model road projects across the city. The stretch from South City-2 Block A to Nirvana Country was also approved in the meeting, another from Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) to Bani Square costing Rs 6.1 crore, and a Rs 6.3 crore project from Omaxe Mall to Rosewood City.Earlier this year, in Aug, the civic body also initiated the development of a 1.5 km model road from Sai Chowk to Shriram Chowk in New Palam Vihar at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
