Why this road near Huda City Centre metro sees snarls daily

The Sector 43 road, which connects Huda City Centre with Kanahi and Sector 44, remains chock-a-block with traffic throughout the day, especially during peak hours.
Several measures by the administration and traffic police, including installation of barricades around Huda City Centre, dividers on the road and foot overbridges near the metro station, have failed to unclog the 2.5km-long stretch.As the road connects Huda City Centre metro station and IFFCO Chowk to sectors 43 and 52, as well as St Thomas Marg (which further connects the road to Sohna Road and DLF 5), traffic on the road increases during peak hours, making driving on the stretch a nightmare.
Both residents and commuters blamed encroachments on the road, as well as its deteriorating condition, for the chaos. “Vehicular movement on this road is an absolute mess every single day. One of the main reasons is encroachment on both sides of the road by cabs. Also, many vendors are now selling construction material along the road. This leads to traffic congestion,” said Kavya Choudhry, a resident of Sector 43.
Many blamed the poor condition of road for slowing down the traffic. “I have been travelling on this route for more than four years. The condition of the road has worsened steadily after it was last re-carpeted about two years ago. Many times, commuters face a major challenge in crossing the stretch near Kanahi village as it remains flooded with sewage water. Waterlogging in huge potholes on the road often leads to traffic pile-up, adding to the snarls,” said Om Prakash Arora, a resident of Sector 52.
Illegal parking by taxis is also an issue. “One can see cabs parked in both service lanes and outside the lanes at any time of the day. They park here as they get customers all the time from Huda City Centre metro station and nearby areas. This causes jams not just on MF Hussain Marg, but also on the road that connects the marg to St Thomas Marg. Traffic police should keep a check over illegal parking by taxis,” said Rohit Kumar, a resident of Kanahi.
Meanwhile, traffic police said cops are deployed during peak hours on the road to keep a check over illegal parking. “Throughout the day, cops are present near Huda City Centre metro station. We have also put dividers on the road to improve the traffic situation. Moreover, we are taking strict action against taxis parked illegally on the road,” a traffic police officer said.
