GURUGRAM:
GMDA
has disconnected
water supply
to two upscale residential societies — Uniworld Garden in Sector 47 and
Unitech The Residences
in Sector 33 — leaving more than 2,100
residents
high and dry.
Residents on Wednesday approached PWD minister
Rao Narbir Singh
at his residence and requested him to take steps to restore the supply.
The two societies put together owe Rs 34 lakh to GMDA as water charge.
The GMDA had issued notices to the developer several times. However, the developer did not respond to the notices. Following this, the authority disconnected the supply on Tuesday.
“The developer has not paid the bill on time, and residents are bearing the brunt,” said Joginder Singh, president of
RWA
, Uniworld Garden-2 in Sector 47.
He also said the developer submitted the bill only on Wednesday. However, the water connection has not been restored leaving the residents fuming. “The line has been disconnected owing to non-payment of the bill. On Tuesday, Unitech made the payment of the bill. All residents are now in distress,” said Naveen Kumar, a resident, Unitech The Residences.
Vikram Bishnoi, president, RWA, Unitech The Residences said, “This is harassment on part of GMDA.”
GMDA officials confirmed the development and said, “We had issued notices to the developer and they didn’t clear the bill. That’s why we snapped the connection. If the bill has been paid, the connection will be restored at the earliest,” said a senior GMDA official.
TOI had earlier reported that GMDA has disconnected over 20 master water connections and issued notices to 40 other consumers for not paying water charge over past three months. Most defaulters include upscale residential societies.
According to a GMDA official, multiple highrises and privately developed plotted colonies in the city had not paid their water bills for years and the dues have crossed crores in a few cases. “We had issued several notices, seeking payment of water bills. Many of them cleared the dues upfront. In the remaining cases, we disconnected the supply,” said a senior GMDA official.
