GURGAON: Hundreds of villagers in Sohna protested against the transfer of panchyat land to a builder on Friday morning.
Spearheading the protest, councillor Vedkala Sharma submitted a memorandum to the Sohna tehsildar demanding that the deal be cancelled. The land deal must be scrapped with immediate effect, said Sharma.
The villagers claimed that the Sohna village councils decision of handing over 42 acres of land to the builder should be thoroughly investigated.
In the past, when builders were favoured for developing colonies on panchyat land, the then deputy commissioner had ordered a probe and cancelled these deals, said Sharma.
Meanwhile, Gurgaon deputy commissioner P C Meena has ordered an investigation into the deal.
We hope that the officials and village council functionaries involved in clearing the deal will be booked, said Sharma.
The state government is aware of the illegalities committed by revenue officials in the scam, but no action had been taken against the erring officials, Sharma added.
