KURUKSHETRA: The Centre would provide tap water connections to 15 crore homes of the country by 2024, Union minister of state for water resources Rattan Lal Kataria said during his visit in Kurukshetra on Friday.
He was speaking as the chief guest in the Kurukshetra University at a workshop on ‘Increasing Water Use Efficiency in Agriculture’ organized by the National Water Mission (NWM).
Kataria said, “A budget of Rs 6,000 crore will be spent on water conservation and recharging water in seven states of Gujarat, Haryana,
Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and
Uttar Pradesh. The water situation in 60% of Haryana is worrisome. Under the scheme, the Centre government will provide the drinking water connections to 15 crore households and an amount of Rs 3.40 lakh crore will be spent on this and this target will be completed by the year 2024.”
