NEW DELHI: An NGO has requested the
Election Commission to review its decision to allow the NCR Planning Board to hold a meeting to clear Haryana's revised sub-regional plan. Warning that such an exercise in haste may turn out to be a scam, the NGO has said in its letter it will approach the Supreme Court if EC does not take "remedial measures".
In an official release, People's Voice said it had appealed to the EC to revisit its decision in public interest and to save and protect the nature conservation zone of the Aravalis.
It told the poll panel if this meeting was allowed to be held, it would serve the political and financial interests of the Haryana government and urban development ministry "at the cost of the image of the Election Commission".
The NGO has referred to a TOI report on the EC allowing the NCRPB meeting. "It has been brought to our notice that the Haryana government is adamant on getting the approval of the NCRPB to help the builders and developers who first managed this land in their name through consolidation process with political support and now they want to start real estate business in this ecologically sensitive area falling under the nature conservation zone ignoring the concern of all the authorities concerned," it alleged.
