Gurugram: Soon, cams at Bandhwari landfill site to track waste processing

landfill site. The move, according to officials, has been taken to monitor processing of legacy waste and keep a check on waste management at the site. The additional commissioner has directed officials to install internet protocol cameras for real-time tracking of waste management.

“A meeting was held recently, in which it was decided that the civic body will install cameras at Bandhwari landfill site for efficient monitoring of waste processing. This will also help us carry out better monitoring at the site. The real-time tracking of sweeping machines deployed across the city has also been enabled and anyone can check that online. New changes have been made to improve surveillance,” said a senior MCG official.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had set a July 2022 deadline to clear legacy waste from Bandhwari, but garbage processing at the landfill has been stalled for now. The state government put it on hold, stating the civic body had not taken administrative approval for floating the tenders to clear waste from the landfill site. Waste processing at the landfill was stopped on May 1 since the contract of the trommels was extended only till April 30.

“If the MCG ensures that the cameras function properly, it will help keep a check on how the agencies drafted in are processing the waste and what kind of garbage is being dumped at the landfill site. The corporation should also give environmentalists the access to cameras for keeping a check on the landfill site,” said

In meeting that was called recently, the deadline set by the green tribunal was discussed. It was decided in the meeting that the joint commissioner (headquarters), executive engineer (Swachh Bharat Mission) and consultant (Swachh Bharat Mission) will explore the possibility of installing an incinerator at the site and submit a report to the MCG commissioner. It was also directed that compost and inert produced by the trommels will be used in green belts, parks and for new plantation drives planned by
