GURUGRAM: : Haryana state government has decided to engage in continuous

solar education

and awareness programs for the consumers by bringing them on the same platform as the channel partners, discom and the

renewable energy department.



In the same regard, a Solar mela was organised on Saturday and Sunday by the district administration and HAREDA which saw participation from 36 solar companies and 13 leading banks.

Ankur Gupta

, renewable energy department who was the chief guest at the event said that, “While there an increased awareness about solar energy, consumers are still looking for answers with regards to installations of solar plants and financing. This event is an initiative to bring together consumers with banks and channel partners who can help them in both.”

He added that in many cases, the consumers are discouraged by the high level of initial investment required in the installation which is where the banks have to step with easy and affordable financing options.

Gupta further said that initially the state government saw some challenges with respect to the net metering connections, however Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and HAREDA have gradually overcome the

teething problems.



“The new and renewable energy department, Haryana is committed to provide all sorts of technical and financial support to people of Haryana so that the Solar Power may reach to all sections of the society,” said Gupta.

Haryana has a target of 1600 MW of solar power for 2022 of which only 67 MW has been achieved as yet. Looking at the numbers , the state renewable energy department has a huge task at hand.

As per Gurgaon , the city currently has 20 MW of solar power approximately and even though there aren't any individual targets for cities, the district administration along with HAREDA have been aggressivly pushing for working on increased the solar power capacity in the city.

"The idea is to provide affordable power to the residents of Gurugram and to provide a platform to them to come and see for themselves the benefits of solar power,” said Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy commissioner, Gurgaon.

More than 300 people visited the expo where information was also being provided on the subsidies and incentives being offered by the Union and State Government on

solar power.
