Sohna Road design faulty, not in tune with traffic load: CRRI
GURGAON: Experts from the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) have found the design and specification of Sohna Road to be incompatible with the traffic load. This, they claim, is the main reason for the poor condition of the stretch.
The experts came out with their findings after a detailed survey carried out last month. The findings and corrective steps that are needed to be urgently taken have been submitted to the HUDA.

At present, the 7-km-long stretch between Rajiv Chowk and Badshahpur is damaged due to faulty design specification. According to the CRRI experts, the road specification of Sohna Road is suitable for low load of traffic that is similar to internal sector roads in Gurgaon.
But the CRRI findings point out that the road handles traffic load akin to a national highway. "This has caused a lot of wear and tear of texture of the road. This is mainly a specification fault and needs to be reworked as per the growth of traffic load in the future," said a senior government official.
The CRRI experts came out with the report after surveying every nook and corner of the stretch. The construction of underground sewage lines has also contributed to the bad condition of the roads, they found out.
The experts have also pointed out that the entire road should be reworked and redone. "The CRRI experts have said that the specification of the road should have been similar to that of a national highway. Now, we will redo the entire stretch," said HUDA administrator
Nitin Yadav.
The HUDA has now decided to rope in CRRI for making the new plan of the development of Sohna Road. Yadav said: "The CRRI will prepare a fresh plan including design and specification. This will include the redesigning of central verge and service lanes, among others."
The whole project of redevelopment of Sohna Road will cost around Rs 70 crore. The HUDA had earlier planned to hand over the road to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, but now it has changed the plan.
