Sewage not treated, MCG cuts off drains to slums, restaurant
GURUGRAM: Complying with the directives of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), MCG disconnected four illegal sewer connections in four places — three in Behrampur and one in Sector 34.
An MCG official said the places, most of which were slum areas, were directing untreated sewage to the Badshahpur drain. While a restaurant in Sector 34 had installed an underground pipe and connected it directly to the drain, 30 shanties in Behrampur were also directing sewage to the drain illegally.

The sewer lines of two slums near Behrampur also sending sewer illegally were disconnected too.
The corporation is soon going to file a police complaint against the offenders. “The corporation has prepared a list of illegal sewage connections as per the NGT directions. MCG carried out a day-long operation to spot violations. FIRs will soon be filed against offenders,” an MCG official said.
The NGT, in July this year, instructed Haryana to restrict all illegal outflow into Badshahpur drain, which flows to Najafgarh drain that ultimately flows down to the Yamuna. So far, the major for the authorities has been able to keep a check over inflow of untreated waste and sewage in the Najafgarh basin which causes severe water pollution in the nallah and then the Yamuna.
While Badshahpur drain originates in the city, Najafgarh Drain was once a part of Sahibi river, which originates in the Aravali hills in the Alwar-Rewari region of Rajasthan and Haryana. The drain traverses a length of 41km before falling into the river Yamuna in the northern part of Delhi.
