Gurgaon: The district administration will reach out to resident welfare associations (RWAs) and municipal corporators to ensure wider participation in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in residential and group housing societies.
On Wednesday, Gurgaon ADC (additional deputy commissioner) Sonu Bhatt appealed to the citizens of the district — especially RWAs — to provide correct and complete information “whenever booth-level officers (BLOs) come for door-to-door surveys”.
The move aims to improve voter registration and verification in urban areas ahead of the publication of the draft voter list. According to officials, the draft electoral roll will be published on July 21. Following its publication, claims and objections — regarding inclusion, deletion or correction of voter details — will be accepted from July 21 to Sept 18.
Authorities said all claims and objections will be examined and disposed of as per the prescribed procedure before the final electoral roll is prepared. Voters whose names do not appear in the draft list will be issued notices and given an opportunity to submit claims along with prescribed supporting documents.
Bhatt said, “The objective of the SIR campaign is to make the electoral roll completely accurate and error-free, so that every name included in the list is eligible and genuine. The accuracy of the electoral roll is the foundation of a strong democratic system and the SIR campaign will play an important role in this direction.”
He said the district administration should work to complete the entire process in a fair, transparent and systematic manner in accordance with the Election Commission’s directives. He held a meeting with electoral registration officers (EROs) and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) regarding preparations for the SIR 2026 campaign.
The ADC said that under the campaign, names of deceased, transferred and other ineligible voters will be removed from the electoral roll, while names of eligible youth, who will complete 18 years of age by July 1, will be added to the electoral roll. He directed the officials that special training of officers and employees be organised from June 5 to June 15, followed by door-to-door surveys by BLOs from June 15 to July 14.
He urged them to share information about deceased, transferred or other ineligible voters in the family or neighbourhood, and to provide necessary details for enrolling eligible youth who will complete 18 years of age by July 1 in the electoral roll.
He asked all SDMs to contact political parties and ensure that those political parties which have not yet appointed booth-level agents (BLA-2) complete this process at the earliest, so that the SIR campaign can be made more effective, transparent and successful. Bhatt directed all EROs and AEROs to ensure regular monitoring of the campaign and continuously review the survey work in their respective areas. He said that there should be no errors of any kind in the revision process and all officers should discharge their responsibilities with complete accountability and seriousness.
