GURGAON: Roads in the city, especially those around major private hospitals, are in a bad shape. TOI visits the stretches. Fearing any delay in emergency cases because of bad roads and heavy traffic on these roads, hospital authorities have approached the administration for re-carpeting of the roads and alleged that the authorities are asking them to maintain the roads.
The hospitals say that dispatching ambulances takes a lot of timebecause of traffic jams and poor condition of the roads.
Talking to TOI, Dr Vishal Sehgal, head of emergency services, Artemis Hospital, said, "Whenever we get an emergency call, our priority is to reach the patient in the minimum possible time but the speed of ambulances get affected due to poor condition of roads in the entire city. There have several instances of ambulances breaking down on dilapidated stretches of roads. Moreover, bumps and jerks also add to patients' trauma. Patients, on a daily basis, have been complaining of bad roads leading to hospitals. Trauma and cardiac patients are the most affected due to jerks and bumpy roads."
Be it private or government hospital, the roads leading to them are in a dilapidated state. The road leading to the civil hospital also happens to be ina poor condition for a long time. All the roads leading to Paras Hospital are in a shambles for the past several months.
According to Jitender Kumar, additional general manager, corporate business, Paras Hospital said, "We have been talking to the civic authorities to get the repair work done but there has been no response from them as yet. Authorities want us, as a private body, to take over the maintenance of this road. Ardee City chowk is a major bottleneck and the heavy traffic at certain junctions can also lead to death of a patient. This issue needs urgent attention of the senior officials."
When asked, HUDA officials said estimates are being prepared for all the major roads for repair work and carpeting but the work would start only after the monsoon is over. "Also several hospitals and hotels have been maintaining the roads leading to them but that is not a must," said a senior HUDA official.
