After reshuffle, MCG engineers get back charge of infra work

Gurgaon: The exit of PC Meena as the MCG commissioner has led to the engineering department of the civic body getting back its powers. After being sidelined as Meena had given additional charges of the MCG’s engineering work to GMDA engineers, the outgoing commissioner ordered a reshuffle in the engineering department on Monday evening, giving back the powers to the corporation’s executive engineers. However, residents said frequent reshuffling in the engineering department makes it difficult to keep track of officers responsible for their areas and colonies.“The previous orders of engaging GMDA executive engineers had raised questions on the capability of MCG executive engineers. Moreover, it was hectic for the engineers to attend meetings at the GMDA office, then attend the field work and report back to the MCG office. We were managing the work earlier also and are capable of doing it. However, the shortage of engineers in the department is a concern that needs to be addressed. If all sanctioned posts of the engineering department are filled, our quality of work will improve since we are overburdened,” said an MCG engineer.Nearly 55% of sanctioned posts in MCG are lying vacant. The most affected department, short on manpower by around 43%, is the engineering department, with only five executive engineers against the sanctioned strength of 10, and 18 junior engineers against the sanctioned strength of 32.“We have had six executive engineers changed in the last one-and-a-half years after the takeover of Ardee City, and this frequent reshuffling does not help the residents. The new engineers start from scratch, and as soon as the engineers understand the issues of the area, they get transferred to other areas,” said Chaitali Mandhotra, co-convener of United Gurugram RWA and member of Ardee City RWA.Executive engineer Nijesh Kumar is the new in-charge of Swachh Bharat Mission and construction and demolition (C&D) waste, earlier under GMDA executive engineer Vikas Malik. Kumar will also supervise the work of the new office building and Sheetla Mata temple, earlier under GMDA executive engineer Shekhar Nandal. Under GMDA engineer Abhinav Verma erstwhile, the internal water supply of sectors 55, 56, and 57, will now be looked after by executive engineer Vicky, who will also look after division 4, which was with Nandal previously. The MCG executive engineer Sanjeev Kumar will take up work in division-8, earlier under GMDA executive engineer Parik Garg.Assistant engineer Sanyog Sharma will look after ward numbers 14, 15, and 16, under GMDA assistant engineer Naresh Kumar previously. The horticulture division of all zones, which was with GMDA executive engineer Parik Garg, is now under Manoj Kumar in addition to his other duties. The electrical divisions 3 and 4, earlier with GMDA executive engineer Amina Chawla, have now been given to MCG engineer Parveen Dalal.
