NUH: A team of the Haryana Police was fired at early on Thursday when they went to arrest two men allegedly involved in the July 31 attack on a religious procession in Nuh.
One of the accused - Munfed - got shot in the leg when the cops retaliated on the Tauru-Nuh road around 5am. His accomplice, Saikul, was nabbed too.
Narendra Bijarniya, the Nuh police chief, said they were looking for Munfed and Saikul after the communal violence last week.
Late on Wednesday night, the cops received a tip-off that the two were hiding in the foothills of the Aravalis in Gowaraka village of Tauru.
A CIA team, headed by inspector Sandeep Mor, reached Gowaraka around 5am and sealed the entry and exit points around the village. The team was carrying out a search when a shot was allegedly fired from behind the bushes. When the cops took position, another shot was fired.
"They, too, had information that the cops were looking for them. They were waiting to ambush the CIA team and fired from behind the bushes. After the police team retaliated, they fled and tried to hide in the Aravali forests. They were nabbed after an extensive search operation," Bijarniya said.
Two guns and a motorcycle were seized from them.
Meanwhile, police officers in Gurgaon ruled out any "foreign hand" behind the communal violence in south Haryana, which started with an attack on a religious procession in Nuh on July 31 and spread to nearby districts over the next few days.
Scores of social media users writing incendiary posts about the violence and posting "disturbing" images are based within the country, the cops said. ACP (crime) Varun Dahiya appealed to people not to fall for rumours that messages and videos that could potentially foment tension were being circulated from Pakistan.
Gurgaon police chief Kala Ramachandran said most of the attacks were carried out by locals.
