Gurgaon: A Mayfield Garden resident was reversing his car inside the society on Sunday when the road suddenly caved in. The vehicle was stuck in the 2-3-foot-deep crater, which appeared to be filled with water, for some time until some residents helped him get the car out.

The caving-in of the internal road of N Block has left the residents worried for their safety. "This is very dangerous, as we don't know when and where it may happen again," said Hema Barakoli, N Block resident.

The RWA said it has contacted the company responsible for maintaining the society roads but failed to get a response. "We are not entirely sure as to what caused the cave-in," said Shiva Choudhary, president of Prayas RWA, which is in charge of much of the maintenance in N Block. "I have contacted the company that is responsible for maintaining Mayfield Garden but am yet to receive any response," he said.

However, officials of the firm said maintenance and restoration of roads was the responsibility of the RWA. "We constructed the internal roads about one and a half years ago and then we asked the RWAs to maintain them. They collect maintenance charges from the tenants to conduct this work," Ajay Shokeen, project manager of Mayfield Garden, told TOI.

"We are not collecting any money as this job was delegated to them. There are approximately five RWAs in charge of the Mayfield Garden area. However, there are disputes among them and the company is not liable for such work," Shokeen said.
