The decision to postpone was against the sole Municipal Act and it clearly brought out the fact that the state government was under pressure. We are very happy with the decision of the court and we are ourselves taking appropriate steps to ensure that the election takes place on Friday. INLD has also sent a protest representation to the Punjab and Haryana high court and to the chief secretary. We are ready for the election and are sure of a victory, said Gopi Chand Gehlot, INLD district president.
The party also declared their candidate after the day-long meetings. We were more than happy with the decision today. The preparations are all done and we have finalised our respective candidates for the post of Mayor, senior deputy Mayor, and deputy Mayor, said Anil Rao, INLD block president.
The BJP too declared their candidate for Mayor on Wednesday. Now that court has made it very clear that tactics of the ruling government will not be entertained, we have decided to nominate Sunita Yadav from ward 30 as the Mayor. We will neither support a INLD or Congress candidate, said senior party leader Umesh Aggarwal.
The unrest in the Congress party however increased after the decision and senior party members held a meeting to reach a decision on would be the candidate. We are trying our best and would be ready with our candidate by the date of election, said a senior party member.
