GURGAON: A web of electric wires hanging loose and low on Sohna Road pose a serious threat to commuters and residents living in neighbouring colonies. Despite several complaints, they said the power discom has turned a blind eye to the impending danger.
A resident of Park View, who did not want to be named, said, "Tangled wires hang close to small shelters set up by potters on the pavements.

Some wires are loosely hanging near the society. It can lead to short circuit during rain."
Nitin Dahiya, residents welfare association (RWA) president of The Palladians, said, "These are high-load cables that are spread across the road. We have been raising this issue for a long time. Last year, we also brought this to the notice of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN). However, no action has been taken yet."
Recounting an incident, Anju Kumar from Malibu Towne said, "A couple of months ago, I saw a wire hanging near the society. A street child, who was playing in stagnant water, mistakenly touched it and got an electric shock. Thankfully, her mother used a wooden stick to pull her back. It was a horrible incident. It is shocking that wires are still in the same condition. It seems that the authorities are waiting for an untoward incident to happen."
The discom said it would take a year to address the problem. "We are planning to set up three substations between Subhash Chowk and Badshapur," said Sanjiv Chopra, the superintendent engineer, DHBVN.
