GURGAON: The undertaking given by the parents and relatives of the
lesbian couple who took refuge in Gurgaon recently shows how their family members unconditionally supported the relationship between the two and put it in writing that they would not trouble them ever.
Though after the couple moved a petition in a city court claiming that they were married as per law it was seen as the first lesbian marriage, in the last application moved by them the couple had stated this as a "live-in relationship".
In their application, Savita and Beena had pleaded the court to direct their parents, sister and brother-in-law "not to harass or interfere in peaceful live-in relationship". The couple had also placed before the court that they no more required security for their life and liberty.
In the undertaking, Jai Parkash and Bimla, parents of Beena said, "We have no objection to the place of residence of Beena and her relationship with Savita. We undertake not to do any act which may threaten their life and liberty. Both of them are accompanying us to our native place."
Another undertaking by Beena's sister Geeta and her brother-in-law Harpal recorded similar views and told the court that they would not create any trouble for the couple. Additional sessions judge Vimal Kumar had said that in view of these statements the petition was dismissed. Their counsel, Vandana Agarwal, said, "The court terminated the police custody because now their relatives are supporting them."
