GURGAON: A 29-year-old woman has alleged that the Gurgaon police were not taking action against her husband, Nikhil Manchanda, and his family for allegedly assaulting her for dowry despite her having lodged an FIR at the DLF police station on May 8.
The victim has been identified as Manika Manchanda. “Police haven’t even sent a notice to my in-laws because they are influential people,” she alleged.

Fed up with the police inaction, Manika has now threatened to immolate herself and her four-year-old son.
The Manchanda family, which was allegedly financially unstable, had demanded a huge sum of money from Manika’s parents. Nikhil’s family had asked Manika to tell her parents to transfer their property in Kirti Nagar, Delhi, in her name.
However, Manika’s parents sold the property after which she was physically abused by her in-laws. Nikhil owns a woollen yarn unit in Ludhiana and allegedly has had several extra-marital affairs. Manika said to have caught him red-handed on many occasions but kept quiet on the insistence of her parents.
