MCG to set up 25 EV battery stations in city
Gurgaon: In a move aimed at boosting clean mobility and tackling air pollution, MCG has signed an MoU with a private agency to develop 25 battery-swapping infrastructure across the city. The agreement, signed in the presence of additional commissioner Ravinder Yadav, lays out plans to establish battery swapping stations to support electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, cars and heavy vehicles.
The agency will handle the installation, testing, operation and maintenance of battery-swapping stations. Meanwhile, MCG will provide the necessary land for these stations and grant all required permissions. Moreover, a revenue-sharing model will also be implemented in accordance with the central govt’s guidelines.
These stations will be set up in Sector 21, 22, 23, 31, 32, 39, 40, 45, 46, along with several markets and community centres. Subhash Chandra Bose Park, Nehru Park, Vatika Chowk and other important locations have also been included in this project.
MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said, “This initiative will promote the use of electric vehicles in the city, which will lead to a reduction in air pollution. At the same time, this project will play an important role in taking the city forward in the direction of green and sustainable development.”
The agreement will remain effective for a period of 10 years, during which amendments or new agreements can be made as per future requirements. However, this is a nonbinding agreement, on the basis of which detailed contracts will be prepared going forward, said officials.
According to the city’s air pollution action plan for 2026-27, MCG has also proposed 20 new EV charging points for govt buses, to be developed by the end of 2026. Out of 20, 10 each will be set in Q3 (July to Sept) and Q4 (Oct-Dec). Moreover, 10 battery-swapping stations are also proposed, with five targeted by Oct-Dec 2026.
Besides setting up EV stations, the MCG also submitted augmentation of city bus services to control vehicular pollution, additional sprinkling machines, procuring large mechanical road-sweeping machines and medium sweeping machines, and planting native Indian shrubs on unpaved surfaces as ways to tackle air pollution.
These stations will be set up in Sector 21, 22, 23, 31, 32, 39, 40, 45, 46, along with several markets and community centres. Subhash Chandra Bose Park, Nehru Park, Vatika Chowk and other important locations have also been included in this project.
