Gurgaon: With only 10 days left for the contract renewal of 12 trommels deployed at the Bandhwari landfill site, MCG is in a fix on how the processing of legacy waste would happen post-March 24. While the work of the private firm deployed by the MCG has already concluded, the contract of the civic body with the companies that have deployed the trommels at the landfill site will also get over on March 24.The department of urban local bodies (ULB) , meanwhile, has already put the tendering process for Bandhwari on hold, due to which the officials said that MCG can’t float tenders for waste processing at the site. “After the contracts get over on March 24, waste processing won’t happen at the landfill site until the ULB withdraws its decision to hold the tendering process,” said Anil Mehta, consultant-engineer of MCG.The civic body had floated two tenders worth over Rs 16 crore each to hire two private agencies for the task. However, the ULB raised objections and directed the MCG to withhold all its tendering process for the bio-remediation and bio-mining of legacy waste at Bandhwari since the civic body had allegedly not taken any approval.
The department had also formed a panel to probe the selection of contractors for the processing of legacy waste at the landfill site. The MCG landfill site gets nearly 2,000 tonnes of waste everyday and in the absence of any mechanism to process this waste, fresh waste besides the legacy waste will start accumulating at the site.
