Three more arrested for kidnapping MBA student
Gurgaon: Three more persons were arrested on Friday for their alleged involvement in kidnapping of an MBA student. The accused were arrested from Bandhwari and remanded in judicial custody.The victim, Varun Agarwal, who is pursuing an MBA course from a private university in the city, was kidnapped from Sector 57 around midnight on Oct 24At 1.13am on Oct 25, the accused made Varun call his batchmate Gaurav Soni and asked for a UPI transfer of Rs 25,000 for an emergency medical expense for his parents.Gaurav got a bit suspicious and asked Varun to come to the PG and collect the cash.One of the kidnappers spoke to him on Varun's phone, and posed as hospital staff. "Both Varun and the man posing as a hospital worker asked me to come to Hongkong Bazar in Sector 57 and hand over the cash to the man they would send," Gaurav said.Gaurav reached Hongkong Bazar with his friends and approached a police patrolling unit he spotted there. While he was with the police, Varun called and asked Gaurav to hand over the cash to someone who would meet him at Sector 55/56 rapid metro station."We arrested one of the accused, Shivraj of Badshapur, who came to collect Rs 25,000 from Gaurav near the metro station. He confessed that Varun was held hostage by his three friends from Bandhwari, in an MUV at a deserted area near Ullawas under Sector 65 police limits," Sector 56 inspector Vinod Kumar said.The police team made Shivraj contact his associates, saying he picked up Rs 25,000 cash and asked them to come to Sector 62.At around 3.30am, the accused came to the Sector 62 traffic signal, and police intercepted the vehicle. The accused pushed Varun off the vehicle and fled the spot.On Gaurav's complaint, a case was registered against the accused under sections 140(3) (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 3(5) (common intention) and 308(2) (extortion) of BNS on Friday morning.
