After the three-day police remand, Shukla was produced in a city court, which sent him to judicial custody on Saturday. Police are now trying to verify the role of four other accused.

The police have ruled out any political or personal rivalry behind the blackmailing. Meanwhile, the police called one of the accused, Mohit Saini, for questioning and said that action would be taken as per law after verifying his role.

The police claimed the accused Shukla had bought an office a few months ago and had paid Rs 25 lakh in advance. To register the office in his name, he needed Rs 48 lakh more, they added. “He has been sent to judicial custody. We are now probing into the role of others,” said inspector Sumit Kumar, the SHO of Sector 5 police station.
