of Rs 5 lakh. The matter came to light, when the applicant reached the company’s Gurugram office on July 3 with an appointment letter, that was found to be fake.

Saurav Negi, officer with Bharti Airtel Limited, told police that the accused was advertising jobs through an online job portal and offering aspirants lucrative deals at well-known companies. “In the said case, the aspirant was asked to pay around Rs 5 lakh for the job offer, which he paid and was issued the fake appointment letter,” Negi said.

The complainant told police that the company had faced similar fraud in October last year, when a man was offering similar jobs to people through the online portal.

An FIR has been registered against the unidentified accused under sections 419 (cheating by impersonation) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC and Section 66 C and 66-D of Information Technology Act at Cyber Crime police station.

“We are investigating the case and would carry out arrests once the accused is identified,” said inspector Suresh Kumar, SHO of Cyber Crime police station.
