GURGAON: A 35-year-old man was arrested from Delhi on Saturday for allegedly bludgeoning his live-in partner to death at a construction site in Palam Vihar last week.
According to the police, Lallan Yadav from Bihar’s Madhepura came to Delhi six years ago after a dispute with his family. His wife had died of snakebite.
Around six months ago, Yadav met Anjali (32) in Delhi. The duo fell in love and started living together in Gurgaon. The accused told the police that on Tuesday, he was drunk and had an argument with Anjali after she refused to cook eggs for dinner. An agitated Yadav thrashed Anjali with a hammer and belt.
The body of a woman with mutilated face was found lying at a construction site in Choma area on Wednesday. .
The caretaker of the building, Surendra, informed cops that the couple used to live at the site. Yadav was on the run when Anjali’s body was found.
Subsequently, an FIR was registered against Yadav under IPC Section 302 (murder) on Friday. He was arrested on Saturday from Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan area. Police said he confessed to the crime.
“On March 10, the couple, along with other people, came to Gurgaon from Delhi for work. They were offered accommodation at the construction site by the contractor as they had no other place to stay. On the intervening night of March 12 and 13, Anjali and Yadav had a fight over dinner. The latter beat her to death,” inspector Karamjeet Singh said.
Fearing arrest, Yadav fled the spot, but the police tracked him down. Prima facie, cops said, Anjali was bludgeoned to death. “Both the basoli and belt that were used to kill the woman have been seized from the crime spot, “ Singh added.
