Gurugram: Juvenile steals iPhone, caught on camera
GURUGRAM: A CCTV footage showing a juvenile stealing an iPhone 8 from a woman’s pocket on Saturday raised safety concerns in Sector 4 and surrounding areas.
The mobile phone was stolen from the woman at a sweet shop. There are speculations that a juvenile robbers’ gang might be involved in the theft as similar incidents were reported from Sadar Bazar and Sector 17 a few days ago, where a minor fled with a bagful of money.
A police officer told TOI that an investigation was under way, and the case would go to Juvenile Justice Board, considering the age of the offender. TOI has accessed the CCTV footage which shows a minor boy unfolding a bag to cover his hand with which he is seen reaching onto the woman’s pocket and stealing her smartphone.
“On Saturday, my sister went to Om sweets in Sector 4. After making payment at the counter, she realised her phone was missing. She raised alarm which caused the shop owners to inspect their CCTV footage which clearly showed that a minor boy had stolen it from her,” said Deepak Sharma, woman’s brother.
“My sister tried checking more visuals as to who must have sent the boy or with whom he had fled, but nothing was found,” Sharma said. This is a second similar incident, as on January 22, a few juveniles had struct at guests and stolen cash from two separate functions in the city.
Police post in-charge of Sector 4 Mohan Lal told TOI that they had not yet ascertained the identity of the juvenile. “We have registered an FIR under Section 155 of Crpc. It is too early to comment whether he was part of a gang or acted alone. We will inform once the investigations are done.”
