GURGAON: According to the provisional Census report released on Tuesday, Gurgaon district has the highest literacy rate (84.44 per cent) in the state.
But, its struggle to strike the male-female equilibrium continues there are currently 853 females per thousand males. This is only a marginal improvement from the 2001 census readings: 850 females for every 1,000 males.
Interestingly, the district with the lowest literacy rate (56.14 per cent), Mewat, has recorded the highest sex ratio 906 females per 1,000 males in the state.

As per the provisional Census report, Panchkula follows Gurgaon on the literary scale with a figure of 83.44 per cent, followed by Faridabad with 83.04 per cent.
At 77.64 per cent, Gurgaon also has the highest female literacy rate, followed by 77.48 per cent in Panchkula and 76.64 per cent in Ambala. The records show the lowest female literacy rate in Mewat at 37.58 per cent.
The highest literacy gender gap of 35.40 per cent has been recorded in Mewat, followed by Palwal with 26.20 per cent and Mahendragarh with 26.03 per cent.
The lowest literacy gender gap (11.18 per cent) has been recorded in Panchkula, followed by Ambala (11.84 per cent) and Gurgaon (12.63 per cent).
Director of census operations, Haryana, Neerja Sekhar said that in 20 districts of the state, there are less than 880 female children compared to every 1000 males in the age group of 0-6 years.
