Police said the elderly man has been identified as Ram Narayan, a retired LIC employee. A resident of Kanpur, Narayan had come to Gurgaon to meet his sister-in-law in DLF-2 on Friday. A police officer said he had two sons, both of them abroad. One of his sons left the country just two days ago.

On Friday evening, Narayan boarded a metro train headed towards Delhi from Gurgaon. He deboarded at Guru Dronacharya station around 5pm and waited for some time for another train to approach, after which he jumped in front of it, cops said.

A suicide note has been recovered from his pocket, in which he has written that nobody is responsible for his death. Police said he was facing mental health problems since the Covid-induced lockdowns. An inquest proceeding has been initiated under Section 174 (police to enquire and report on suicide) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
