GURUGRAM: Sex is no longer a taboo among the Indians and intimacy is very important. More urban residents want to experiment during the act, reveals a survey conducted by an online portal that sells adult products. The portal sells sexual wellness products and has studied over 6 million visitors, over eighty thousand orders and approximately 8,700 customer interactions.
According to the study by ThatsPersonal.com, Mumbai continues to be the biggest city with Delhi in the sale of adult toys. However, the national capital region which includes Delhi, Gurugram and Noida clubbed together overtakes Mumbai in terms of sales. The NCR contributes 9 per cent higher sales and 13 per cent more traffic than Mumbai.
The other top cities are Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad.
Notably, Gurugram is a big buyer of Adult Games second to Ahmedabad. While, in Noida, men are the biggest buyers of penis enlargement products. Around 4 per cent of all orders for naughty gifts comes from Gurugram.
The millennium city also contributes to 2 per cent of the total revenue and 1 per cent of the total traffic received on the website.
Also, Tier II cities registered an increase of 25% increase in sales with the leading cities being Noida, Lucknow, Jaipur, Gurugram and Chandigarh. Cities like Baroda, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram have women more than men chasing the adult products.
The survey also reveals that people aged 25 to 34 years constituted maximum repeat users who account for the highest transactions. On the other hand, the younger generation between 18 and 24 opted for self-pickup of their orders and accountrd for the highest social media engagement.
Interestingly, February reports the highest sales in the year due to Valentine’s Day. On the contrary, March records the lowest month of sales, probably due to exam season or high purchases in the previous months.
In the adult toys category, the Indian market size is estimated to be worth Rs 10,000 crores by 2020.
