Gurgaon: The foundation stone for the 800-bed super speciality civil hospital will be laid by Dec 1 this year. The ambitious project — estimated to cost approximately Rs 990 crore — is slated for completion within three years. A new medical college in Sector 102-A is also expected to be operational by April next year.Haryana health minister Arti Rao, during her visit to the civil hospital site in the city on Tuesday, said, "Prepare to lay the foundation stone of the new building by Dec 1."The old hospital building, which was declared structurally unsound, was entirely razed in Dec 2022 following six incidents of roof collapse in 2015 and 2016, leaving patients heavily dependent on private healthcare facilities. Rao, who convened a meeting with officials from the health department and GMDA at the PWD rest house in Civil Lines, said, "We must undertake serious and concerted efforts to enhance and expand the accessibility of health services. Our objective is to deliver top-notch medical care, from primary treatment to advanced procedures in civil hospitals."Rao laid stress on establishing "coordination among relevant departments" to accelerate the construction work.
Elaborating on the progress of the new civil hospital building, civil surgeon Virendra Yadav said, "The tender for the new civil hospital building, estimated to cost approximately Rs 990 crore, was floated on Aug 16. The tender will open on Nov 8. The 13-story hospital will comprise two basements, one ground floor and 11 floors. The facility will also feature essential amenities such as 60 ICUs, 12 OTs and a helipad for emergency situations.""As per the tender conditions, the construction work of the new civil hospital of Gurgaon will be completed in three years," said Yadav. The new hospital aspires to be a cutting-edge govt-run facility, equipped with a CT-MRI unit, radiology and oncology departments and specialised sections for nebulisation, immunisation, microbiology, clinical pathology, molecular, biochemistry and hematology units. It will also house a laboratory for blood group serology and a transfusion centre.The health minister also inspected the under-construction Sheetla Mata Hospital and Medical College in Sector 102-A, which is expected to be operational by April next year.During the meeting, GMDA CEO A Srinivas said the structural construction work of the Rs 541-crore medical college project in Sector 102A is nearly complete. He said that this 883-bed medical college will have seven floors, including the ground floor. The construction cost will be shared by GMDA (50%), the municipal corporation (45%) and Shrimata Sheetla Mata Temple (5%). He said the medical college construction would be finalised by April 30 next year.The health minister also inspected the Sector 10 govt hospital, where a 100-bed block is under construction.
